Joe Weedon was elected to State Board of Education representing Ward 6 in 2014. For over a decade, Joe has been a leading voice for educational reform in the District. Joe worked with community members from across the Ward to develop and implement DCPS’ Ward 6 Middle School Plan. He has served on the Eliot-Hine Middle School collaboration team and LSAT, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education's (OSSE) Title I Committee of Practitioners and the board of two non-profits focused on expanding after-school programming.
Professionally, Joe serves as Executive Director of Companies for Causes, a non-profit organization working to engage socially-minded CEOs of closely held small and mid-sized companies to make a collective impact on our community. The organization's first project - All Roads Lead to Eastern - is designed to support student achievement at Eastern Senior High School's community of schools. Overall, Joe has more than 15 years of experience in public policy and government relations focused mostly on anti-poverty and educational issues.
Joe graduated from the University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign. He earned a master's degree in political science from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Maryland @ College Park. Joe and his wife, Amy, are proud parents of 4th and 2nd grade students at Maury Elementary School.
