DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO DISCUSS PROPOSAL PERMITTING OSSE TO AWARD STATE DIPLOMAS

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a working session to review a proposal that would allow the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) to award diplomas to students attending OSSE-managed schools. The need for additional rulemaking in this area was brought to the attention of the State Board after management of Hospitality High School was transferred to OSSE by mayoral order and it was learned that current law and regulations did not provide allowance for OSSE to award diplomas to graduating seniors. The State Board will review a draft of proposed rulemaking that amends Title 5-E DCMR § 2202 to establish a state high school diploma to be issued by the State Superintendent of Education.

The State Board will also consider adoption of the State Board's 2013 annual report and a formalized process for policy review and adoption.

In addition, the State Board will  discuss the State Board's report regarding the District’s compulsory attendance regulations.

The working session will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 4:30pm at 441 4th Street NW in Room 1114.

While working sessions are open to the public, individuals and representatives of organizations are not permitted to speak or participate during the working session. However, individuals and representatives of organizations may submit written testimony for consideration by the Board. Written testimony may also be submitted by email at [email protected].
