DC State Board of Ed to Honor Teachers of the Year, Adopt Committee Reports on Truancy and the ESEA Flexibility Waiver

DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO HONOR TEACHERS OF THE YEAR, ADOPT COMMITTEE REPORTS ON TRUANCY AND THE ESEA FLEXIBILITY WAIVER RENEWAL

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a public meeting to honor the District’s most exemplary teachers:

  • Jennifer Ramacciotti, 2015 DC Teacher of the Year Winner
  • Barrie Moorman, 2014 DC History Teacher of the Year Winner
  • Michelle Johnson, 2014 Milken Educator Award

In addition, the State Board will adopt a report outlining its findings and recommendations regarding the District’s compulsory attendance regulations. The State Board will also adopt a report providing its findings and recommendations regarding the District’s efforts to adopt a revised ESEA Flexibility Waiver.

The public meeting will occur on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers (1st Floor) of 441 4th Street NW. All students, parents, educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.

Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at the meeting are asked to notify State Board staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected] and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Monday prior to the meeting. They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.

The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
