DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO REVIEW PROPOSED ESEA FLEXIBILITY WAIVER RENEWAL APPLICATION

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a working session to review the District’s proposed ESEA Flexibility Waiver renewal application prior to its submission to the U.S. Department of Education. This final draft comes after more than two months of community engagement by both the State Board and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education.

Pending approval by the U.S. Department of Education, the State Board will be responsible for approving the final ESEA Flexibility Waiver for a three-year period, through the 2017-2018 school year.

The State Board will also consider adoption of a report outlining its findings and recommendations regarding the District’s compulsory attendance regulations.

In addition, the State Board will consider the establishment of a Student Advisory Committee to serve as a voice for all students in the District of Columbia and a communication link between the State Board and other education decision-makers and students.

The working session will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 4:30pm at 441 4th Street NW in the Old Council Chambers.

While working sessions are open to the public, individuals and representatives of organizations are not permitted to speak or participate during the working session. However, individuals and representatives of organizations may submit written testimony for consideration by the Board. Written testimony may also be submitted by email at [email protected].
