Washington, DC - The DC State Board of Education (SBOE) announces its monthly working session on May 3, 2017 will be held at 5:00 p.m. in Room 1114 at 441 4th Street, NW. The SBOE will receive reports from the Ombudsman for Public Education and the Chief Student Advocate on their work to assist students and parents.
The Office of the Ombudsman for Public Education provides equal access to education for all students within District of Columbia public and charter schools, and supports student engagement and achievement. You can read more about the vital work of the Ombudsman’s office in their annual and quarterly reports.
The Office of the Student Advocate supports and empowers DC residents to achieve equal access to public education through advocacy, outreach, and information services. They provide step-by-step assistance for students, parents, families, and community members to be informed, be connected, and be empowered. The next Ward 7 Parent Empowerment Summit is on May 6. State Board members will also continue their discussion with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) about the DC Science assessment. Each spring, high school biology students and all students in grades 5 and 8 take the science assessment. OSSE intends to release the results of the 2016 exam this summer.
The working session is open to the public. However, individuals and representatives of organizations are not permitted to speak or participate during the working session. Individuals and representatives of organizations may submit written testimony for consideration by the SBOE by email at [email protected].
