Washington, DC - The DC State Board of Education (SBOE) will hold its monthly public meeting on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers at 441 4th Street NW. The State Board continues its work on implementing the next phase of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). State Board members will vote on the creation of an ESSA Advisory Task Force that will help to advise the SBOE over the next year.
With this newly formed task force, the State Board will conduct community roundtables and focus groups to gather input on a new school report card from essential District education stakeholders. The task force will consist of SBOE representatives and a variety of participants including DC Public/Public Charter school students and teachers, business representatives, national education experts, and a representative from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).
The State Board voted last month to approve the new state accountability plan drafted by the OSSE. Work on the plan is not completed, however. The plan approved by the SBOE included provisions for the inclusion of additional measures on items like high school academic growth, school climate, and well-rounded education once those measures were fully explored and piloted. Individuals should furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 and should submit one (1) electronic copy of their testimony in advance for the permanent record.
