In 2007, the SBOE approved the current version of the Health Education Standards. Since then, education standards and data on District students’ health outcomes show a pressing need for change that results in robust health education standards. You spoke and we heard you. After multiple public engagement forums and significant research, the full health education standards have been approved.
Past Public Engagement:
The DC State Board of Education (SBOE) empowering the public to participate in the development of the new health education standards. Members of the public were briefed before each meeting from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) about the new standards. Students played a role by testifying about what they wanted to learn during the SBOE Public Meetings. Check out the student voices who shaped the new health education standards on Youtube.
