Updated DC School Report Card Released

Tuesday, December 3, 2019
State Board to discuss new STAR ratings.

The DC School Report Card provides District families with information about every public and public charter school including student academic achievement, school environment and its School Transparency and Reporting (STAR) Framework score.

A school level report card is required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and is designed to make the education system more transparent and equitable. The District’s school report card was developed by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) in partnership with District families, the State Board and other stakeholders and a new update was released today.

“The DC School Report card is an important mechanism that parents and students across the city can utilize to find the best educational opportunities and experiences that meet their child’s individual needs,” Karen Williams, Ward 7 Representative said.

The update provides new information on 150 data points that help parents understand a school including academic programs, the closest public transportation routes, extra-curricular options, the best contact person for parents and families, and more.

The State Board will be discussing the DC School Report Card and STAR Framework updates at its public Working Session on December 4, 2019. The full agenda for the meeting can be found below.
