- Special Education and Reading Teacher, Calvin Coolidge High School
Samantha Brown is a native of Queens, New York, and has been living in the District of Columbia for nine years. Ms. Brown earned her Bachelor's of Art in Political Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Master's Degree in Education and Human Development at George Washington University. Ms. Brown began her journey as an educator, organizing residents in a DC South East community, helping to create a tenant organization as an Americorp fellow. This experience influenced her to work with special needs youth, teaching them to advocate for themselves. She has been teaching high school youth with special needs for seven years, four of those years in the DC public schools. Currently, she lives and works as a DCPS reading and special education teacher in Ward 4 due to a belief that "teachers should live in the communities they serve." As a result, Ms. Brown is able to be an integral part of the community she serves.
