LaJoy Johnson-Law is a proud Ward 8 resident and devoted mother to her beautiful 13-year-old daughter, Abria. With over 12 years of dedicated service in the education and policy landscape of Washington, DC, LaJoy has been a relentless advocate for special education, schools east of the river, and children with disabilities and their families.
A subject matter expert in education policy, LaJoy holds an Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Phoenix. She further advanced her expertise with a Master of Philosophy in Public Policy and Administration from Walden University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration.
In 2024, LaJoy was elected as the Ward 8 Representative on the DC State Board of Education, continuing her unwavering commitment to educational equity. Her leadership extends across numerous roles, including: Ward 8 Education Council Parent Member, E.L. Haynes PCS Board Member, Adaptive Recreation DPR Community Partner, and Health Services for Children with Special Needs Board Member. Her deep experience in education, special education, disability rights, and out-of-school-time (OST) policy reflects her passion for ensuring that all children, regardless of background or ability, receive the support they deserve.
LaJoy’s work is driven by her love for her community and her belief that every child should have access to a quality education and the necessary resources to thrive. She remains a steadfast advocate, collaborator, and leader in the fight for educational equity across the District.
