Washington, DC—The DC State Board of Education (SBOE) has released a document, which summarizes considerations for reopening the District’s public schools. The document cites input from a wide range of educational stakeholders, organizations, and agencies. It also includes feedback from public testimony which constituents submitted during the State Board’s June 17 Public Meeting. The State Board will also hear testimony from over 50 witnesses at its July 15 Public Meeting which will be live-streamed here: http://bit.ly/SBOEJuly2020PM.
The State Board has shared this document with Mayor Bowser and her education team, including the State Superintendent of Education, the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME), the Chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), the DC Public Charter School Board, and the leadership of traditional public and public charter schools as a resource that captures the complexity of the school reopening process and as a guide to facilitate discussion and ongoing decision-making related to the safe, equitable, and effective return to virtual and in-person schooling.
