Zachary Parker is a third-generation educator now serving as the Ward 5 Representative on the DC State Board of Education. Working alongside some of the nation’s leading education organizations, Zachary has served as an accomplished educator and leader in the fight against educational inequity for over 10 years. Zachary is a proud alum of Teach For America and former award-winning 7th-grade math teacher in New Orleans, Louisiana post-Katrina. He now serves as Managing Director of Coaching Strategy with The Achievement Network, where he is responsible for developing and executing on a vision for how the organization will work alongside more than 800 school partners and systems across the country to leverage and take action on student achievement data, learning standards, and curricula to accelerate student performance.
In addition to his love for education, Zachary is deeply passionate about giving back and racial and social equity. Following the sudden death of his brother in 2016, Zachary founded Global Millennials for Progress, a social action non-profit aimed at mobilizing millennials to take action on world issues related to education, environment, health, human rights, and poverty. To date, Global Millennials for Progress has launched two satellite networks, built an orphanage in Cape Town, South Africa, supported health clinics throughout Haiti, and awarded academic scholarships to DC students. Zachary also serves as a proud board member of Love to Langa, a U.S. based non-profit supporting programs to provide hope and educational opportunities for the children of Langa, South Africa.
When Zachary is not supporting DC schools and fighting for equity, he manages a consulting firm where he provides instructional support and coaching to educational organizations throughout the United States.
Zachary received a B.S. in Speech and Language Pathology from Northwestern University and a M.A. in Education Policy and Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.
