This report provides policymakers and the public with an overview of the policies, regulations, and standards that govern the District’s Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade (PK-12) public education buildings and grounds. It also includes recommendations for how leaders in DC can collaborate across agencies to ensure all of DC’s public school facilities are safe, healthy, educationally appropriate, and equitable.
It is a culmination of the work completed by the DC Healthy School Facilities Network Committee, which was originally approved by the State Board in SR22-18, To Approve the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) Healthy Schools Facility Network (HSFN) Team Work Plan. The report and the committee’s work were made possible by a grant from The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE), which created the Healthy School Facilities Network (HSFN) to build and enhance the capacity of states to provide healthy school facilities.
