The State Board affirms its position that families should be able to defer their child's kindergarten enrollment for one year if they turn five between June 16 to September 30, provided that the child has enrolled in an academic-focused, licensed Pre-K4 class. The State Board takes the position that no child in the District of Columbia should be recorded truant if they satisfy certain criteria. The State Board believes the kindergarten age band should be limited to 15.5 months. The State Board will advance permanent legislation to align DC Official Code with the recommendations described in the resolution.
