DC State Board of Ed Commemorates Passing of Former Ward 5 Board of Education Member Angie Corley

DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION COMMEMORATES PASSING OF FORMER WARD 5 BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBER ANGIE CORLEY

Washington, DC – The State Board of Education (State Board) is saddened by the passing of Angie Corley, former member of the District of Columbia Board of Education. Ms. Corley died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the age of 89.  Ms. Corley represented Ward Five on the District of Columbia Board of Education from 1993-2001 and was also a founding member of the Ward 5 Education Council.

Mark Jones, President of the State Board, shared “Ms. Corley has left an indelible legacy in the District of Columbia, having not only served as a school counselor, but as a member of the former Board of Education. As the current Ward 5 representative to the State Board of Education, it is my honor and privilege to continue to fight so that all students have the opportunity to receive an excellent education.”

Ms. Corley is survived by her husband, Andrew P. Corley, along with her children and grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Church of the Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 1423 Girard Street NE on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 10:00 am until the service begins at 11:00 am.

The members of the State Board wish to express their deepest sympathies to the Corley family, friends and colleagues.
