DC State Board of Ed to Receive Briefing on PARCC Assessment, Updates to ESEA Flexibility Waiver Renewal

DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO RECEIVE BRIEFING ON PARCC ASSESSMENT, UPDATES TO ESEA FLEXIBILITY WAIVER RENEWAL

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a public meeting to learn more about preparations and expectations regarding the PARCC assessment. Replacing the DC CAS, the PARCC assessment is a computer-based K–12 assessment that measures students’ proficiency in both English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics.

In addition, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will present an update on the process to renew the District’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver. A draft of the ESEA Flexibility Waiver Renewal is due to the U.S. Department of Education by March 31, 2015. The draft waiver can be reviewed on OSSE’s website at http://osse.dc.gov/service/elementary-secondary-education-act-esea

The public meeting will occur on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers (1st Floor) of 441 4th Street NW. All students, parents, educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.

Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at the meeting are asked to notify DCSBOE staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected] and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Monday prior to the meeting. They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.

The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
