DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SCHEDULES ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING, PREPARES FOR ESEA WAIVER RENEWAL
Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a public meeting for the purposes of selecting Board leadership for the 2015 calendar year.
In addition, since the District of Columbia was offered an opportunity to renew its ESEA Flexibility Waiver for a three-year period, through the 2017-2018 school year, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will be sharing the process for the ESEA Flexibility Waiver’s renewal and their proposed public engagement strategy to ensure that community input is incorporated into the ESEA Flexibility Waiver Renewal draft due to the U.S. Department of Education by March 31, 2015.
The District’s waiver can be reviewed on OSSE’s website at http://osse.dc.gov/service/dc-elementary-and-secondary-education-act-esea-flexibility-waiver-extension-request.
The public meeting will occur on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers (1st Floor) of 441 4th Street NW. All students, parents, educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.
Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at the meeting are asked tonotify DCSBOE staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected] and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Monday prior to the meeting. They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.
The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
