DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO DISCUSS THE  DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA’S STATE-LEVEL ACCOUNTABILITY FRAMEWORK

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a public meeting to initiate a discussion regarding the District of Columbia’s state-level accountability structure. There are four major components of this framework, including:

  • ESEA Flexibility Waiver
  • Race to the Top Grant
  • Common Core State Standards
  • PARCC Assessments

Together, these items provide the structure and information required to hold both traditional public schools and public charter schools accountable for their performance and to inform the State Superintendent of Education of ways to differentiate state-level support for the lowest performing schools. These four elements are critical to enabling the District of Columbia to better support the improvement of all schools.

In addition to this discussion, the State Board will hear from several Reward Schools, or schools with the highest levels of student performance and growth.

The public meeting will occur on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers (1stFloor) of 441 4th Street NW. All students, parents, and educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.

Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at the meeting are asked to notify DCSBOE staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected] and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation. They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.

The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
