DC State Board of Education to Honor Teachers of the Year, Be Briefed on PARCC Assessment

DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO HONOR TEACHERS OF THE YEAR, BE BRIEFED ON PARCC ASSESSMENT

 

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a public meeting to review issues coming before the State Board. The following issues will be covered at this meeting:

 

  • PARCC Briefing (PARCC Presentation): The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) will provide the public with an overview of the new K-12 assessment to the State Board and provide guidance on what to expect as the District of Columbia prepares to administer the test to students in SY2014-2015.
  • LEA Report Card (OSSE Presentation): The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will share an update on the status of the LEA Report Cards.
  • DC State Athletic Association (OSSE Presentation): The D.C. State Athletic Association (DCSAA), which provides leadership and support for interscholastic athletic programming, will present on its achievements and accomplishments for the past year, as well as share what is on the horizon.  

 

In addition, the State Board be present ceremonial resolutions to outstanding District teachers including Mr. William Day, the D.C. Teacher of the Year, Ms. Serena Barton, the D.C. History Teacher of the Year, and Ms. Kena Allison, the Milken Educator Award winner.

 

The public meeting will occur on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 6:00 pm at the John A. Wilson Building, Room 412 (note time and location change). The John A. Wilson Building is located at 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004. All students, parents, and educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.

 

Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at the meeting are asked to notify DCSBOE staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected] and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Monday prior to the meeting. They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.

The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
