DC State Board of Education Schedules Organizational Meeting, Prepares for ESEA Waiver Renewal

DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SCHEDULES ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING, PREPARES FOR ESEA WAIVER RENEWAL

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a public meeting for the purposes of selecting Board leadership for the 2014 calendar year.

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is also scheduled to present on the status of the District’s ESEA waiver renewal. Within the next few weeks, the District will receive the U.S. Department of Education's Part B monitoring report which will initiate a 60-day period where the District will have an opportunity to revise the ESEA waiver request. The State Board seeks public comments regarding the implementation of the ESEA waiver in the last year.

The public meeting will occur on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers (1st Floor) of 441 4th Street NW. All students, parents, and educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.

Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at the meeting are asked to notify DCSBOE staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected] and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Monday prior to the meeting. They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.

The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
