Members to Learn of Progress and Next Steps

Washington, DC - The DC State Board of Education (SBOE) will hold its monthly public meeting on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers at 441 4th Street NW. The SBOE welcomes representatives from the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education to provide a look-ahead to School Year 2017-18 from the citywide Every Day Counts! Taskforce.

In September of last year, the SBOE and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education launched a joint attendance campaign, Every Day Counts! to highlight the importance of attendance in District schools. Last year, the Every Day Counts! campaign helped schools incentivize attendance by providing rewards for individual students and schools who improved their attendance. The Every Day Counts! Taskforce, of which Ward 7 Member & President Karen Williams is a Steering Committee member and At-Large member Ashley Carter participates in committee discussions, partners with diverse District agencies and stakeholders to collectively advance and coordinate strategies to increase student attendance and reduce truancy. The group includes representatives from education, justice, and health clusters of the Administration, allowing for holistic development and implementation of attendance policy. The Taskforce is co-chaired by Deputy Mayor of Education Jennifer Niles and Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services HyeSook Chung. More information can be found at: attendance.dc.gov.

Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at a public meeting are asked to notify Board staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected].
