DC State Board of Ed Seeks Comments on ESEA Waiver Amendments, Update on PARCC Assessment

DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SEEKS COMMENTS ON ESEA WAIVER AMENDMENTS,
UPDATE ON PARCC ASSESSMENT

 

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 to review issues coming before the State Board. The following issues will be covered at this meeting:

  • ESEA Flexibility Waiver Amendment Update:  In preparation for State Board approval of amendments to the District’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will present on the proposed amendments. The State Board seeks public comment on the waiver amendments. The proposed waiver amendments can be found at http://bit.ly/dceseawaiver. 
  • State and LEA Report Cards: The State Board will receive an update and presentation on changes to the categories and format of the District’s State and LEA Report Cards. The State Board seeks to approve revised State and LEA Report Cards that are in compliance with federal guidance.
  • PARCC Assessment Update: The State Board will receive an update on OSSE’s efforts to prepare for the rollout of the PARCC Assessment in the 2014-2015 school year, including the results of the recent field test of the PARCC assessment. The PARCC Assessment is a next-generation, online assessment that is planned to replace the District’s current assessment, the DC-CAS.


The State Board will also honor its student representatives, Jason Perry of Woodrow Wilson High School, and Daniel Spruill, from Friendship Collegiate Academy Public Charter School, at the last meeting of their term..

The public meeting will occur on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 5:30pm at the 441 4th Street NW in the Old Council Chamber. All students, parents, and educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.

Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at the meeting are asked to notify State Board staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected] and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Monday prior to the meeting. They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.

The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
