Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Contact: Jack Jacobson, President, Phone: (202) 741-0888

The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a public meeting to vote on an emergency rule that would allow the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) to award diplomas to students attending OSSE-managed schools. The proposed emergency rule amends Title 5-E DCMR § 2202 by adding a subsection that establishes a state high school diploma to be issued by the State Superintendent of Education. If approved the rule shall be adopted on May 29, 2015 and become effective on that day.  The rule will remain in effect for up to one hundred and twenty (120) days, expiring on September 26, 2015.

The State Board will also be considering ceremonial resolution for the National Youth Science Camp participants.

Finally, there will be a briefing by OSSE on the State System of Support.

The public meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers (1st Floor) of 441 4th Street NW.

Individuals and representatives of organization who wish to comment at the meeting are asked to notify State Board staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected] and provide their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Tuesday prior to the meeting.  They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.

The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
