The State Board of Education Membership Eligibility Emergency Amendment Act of 2022 introduced by Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6) and Councilmember Janeese Lewis George (Ward 4), will amend the State Board of Education Establishment Act of 2007 to permit employees of D.C. Public Schools (DCPS) to serve as elected officials on the State Board of Education. The State Board supports this legislation as it further fosters equitable representation and diversity of perspectives on the State Board.

State Board of Education (State Board) will hold its monthly public meeting on Wednesday, February 16, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread globally, the State Board is taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our members, staff, and public. The State Board had hoped to provide this public meeting in a hybrid form where members of the public could participate in-person or virtually.

In January, the State Board swore in a new student representative, Liv Birnstad, a junior at Capital City Public Charter School, elected Ward 6 Representative Jessica Sutter as President and Ward 7 Representative Eboni-Rose Thompson as Vice President for the 2022 term, and adopted two resolutions: CR22-1 Recognizing the Service of Alex O'Sullivan, Student Representative, and SR22-1 STAR Framework Recommendations.
