Washington, DC—The D.C. State Board of Education (State Board) will hold its monthly public meeting on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. As the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak continues to spread globally, the State Board is taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our members, staff, and public.
In light of the dramatic rise in anti-Asian violence within the past year, the D.C. State Board of Education unequivocally expresses its solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and condemns all manifestations of violence, racism, misogyny, and xenophobia against the AAPI community.
We are deeply saddened and sickened by the killing of George Floyd and the unacceptable loss of numerous other Black men and women across the country that we have lost to the evils of institutional racism and police violence.
The State Board stands with those who seek equal justice under the law. Our history has shown that protest and civil unrest are the language of the oppressed. We must listen and come together to fundamentally change the rules and systems that make this type of injustice an all-too frequent and too-often tolerated occurrence in our communities.

This committee meeting will be an opportunity for members to discuss key issues and focus areas that the State Board has identified as priorities. The discussions will provide members the opportunity to share thoughts, recommendations, and next steps for the SBOE.

Washington, DC—Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the D.C. State Board of Education (State Board) has worked to better and more fully understand how the numerous changes over the last year will and have affected District families, students, and communities. At the end of January 2021, the State Board surveyed 1,060 public-school teachers from 185 different schools representing every DC Public School (DCPS) and the majority of public charter schools.
