State Board to Hear from National Experts on School and Student Success

Washington, DC - The DC State Board of Education (SBOE) will hold its monthly public meeting on June 15, 2016 at 5:30 pm. Please note that the location of this meeting has changed. It will be held in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building at 1350 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, Washington, D.C. 20004. 
 
The SBOE will vote on a report from its Student Advisory Committee (SAC), chaired by its 2015-2016 Student Representatives, Brian Contreras (School Without Walls) and Destinee Whittington (Richard Wright PCS). The SAC is composed of high school students from across the District who met throughout the school year to develop recommendations that will be presented to the State Board. Their report can be found here. The application process for the SY2016-2017 Student Representatives and Student Advisory Council is now open. The SBOE will also hear from four national education policy experts who will provide their perspective on potential accountability measures for schools that go beyond just test scores. The State Board is currently working with the Office of the State Superintendent to develop and approve a new statewide accountability system that will ensure that our schools develop successful students. 
 
Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at a public meeting are asked to notify Board staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at [email protected]. Individuals should provide their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Monday prior to the meeting and bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.
