D.C. State Board Hears from Panel on Teacher Wellness

Washington, D.C.—The D.C. State Board of Education (SBOE) will hold its monthly public meeting on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread globally, the State Board is taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our members, staff, and public. The State Board had hoped to provide this public meeting in a hybrid form where members of the public could participate in-person or virtually.

State Board Releases Results of Four STAR Framework Surveys

Washington, DC—The DC State Board of Education (SBOE) releases a four-part series of reports on input and feedback received from principals, teachers, other D.C. residents, as well as school accountability experts on D.C.’s school accountability system– the STAR Framework and Rating. The State Board will take all of these factors into consideration as it continues to hear from constituents ahead of a vote on recommendations to revise the STAR Framework at the January Public Meeting.

Statement on the Lifting of the Indoor Mask Mandate

The State Board of Education (SBOE) has heard concerns from families and schools about the abrupt end to the mask mandate on Monday, November 22. Families are worried that the end to the mandate in much of the public sphere, but maintaining it in schools and childcare settings, does not provide enough protection for children, especially those under five years old that are unable to receive a vaccine.

Fall Engagement Session #1



The State Board is pleased to announce a series of public engagement sessions to provide the public with opportunities to share their thoughts on the State Board’s work. The first session will be held on Monday, November 15 at the Deanwood Recreation Center from 6–8:30 pm and the second will be held on Saturday, December 4 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm.
